LO1. 1.1 Analysis of Digital Media Portfolios / Personal Media Profiles
DIGITAL MEDIA PORTFOLIOS
What is a digital media portfolio?A portfolio is a platform or website that showcases your work explaining why you did it and where your ideas come from. The main purpose of a portfolio is to present a body of projects to display so people can learn abou your work in an organised space.
Why do I need a personal media profile?
A personal media profile will be important as hiring companies will be searching for your name prior to meetings. This highers your chances of earning opportunities to represent various multimedia companies. This also allows people that are searching for you to know how you make your media projects unique to you and what differentiates you from the others. Not having a personal media profile could come off and be portrayed as if you have something to hide. The profile is also a huge factor when it comes to building a personal or professional brand.
Examples of Digital Media Portfolios that I am interested in:
Studio Feixen:
This is my top one because I gravitate to the way the projects are shown in this minimalistic design. The gray and monochromatic templates that were used for the body of this portfolio are shades of grey. I l like this because it mainly puts all of the focus on the work itself making it pop out as the center of attention. Colourful pieces are easily noticeable and images of these pieces are easily remembered after being looked at once.
The problem with this display is that the work is annotated in groups and not individually. This means that people will not understand the origin of the inspiration for some of these projects. All the projects are grouped under subheadings which doesn't emphasize how unique each piece is.
The work that they produce looks like it is done in gif format because of the way animations they create constantly repeat and it is extremely satisfying to look at.
Velvet Spectrum:
I enjoy Velvet Spectrum because of how colourful the work they produce is. This is a showcase of work that is extremely saturated which brings out the strength in each colour. It is also evident that the fonts that they use are not sharp and are often rounded or curved. Pink is a very prominent colour in multiple projects that they have created and I enjoy the way that they utilise this colour. In terms of the look of the work this would be my favourite.
I like the way the work is set out too. Just like Studio Feixen, Velvet Spectrum also sets their work out in a minimalistic manner and groups the work too but the analysis of the project is way more in depth with the reasoning behind the pieces being clear. They also have videos for each group of projects that they showcase and they are amazing in quality which shows the amount of effort put into it.
There isn't anything that I dislike about them but the presentation around the website could be more colourful but I believe the purpose around the beige website display is to put emphasis on the colourful work.
Toyfight
Toyfight have the best website that I have seen in the Portfolios. Their work is enjoyable because of the humor around it. The main website is extremely smooth and the animations are incredible. They have a youthful touch to their work and the websites they create are visually aesthetic. If I had to hire a company to create my website it would have to be toyfight. The designs and layouts look very modern and futuristic and the fonts they use are always sans serif which contributes to what makes it look modern. They also usually stick to about 5 colours in order to instill a perception of each website in our mind to make it memorable. They use really high quality pictures as well and there are very few rounded corners as the templates are always sharp. They always find a way to bring the theme of the company they work with out through the website and the templates in it.
